review:
'Project Hail Mary' by Andy Weir is a book about an all or nothing mission and a lone survivor who has to find the solution.

When Ryland Grace wakes up, he doesn't know who he is. He is also in a space ship and the two other people on board are dead. Through flashbacks, he remembers who he is and why he is on board this ship.

I loved the science and problem solving of 'The Martian' and it's all here again, but it is a different story and the addition of a character named Rocky made all the difference. I loved it!

'The Misfit Club for Girls 1. Paloma' by BeKa with art by Camille Mehu is a graphic novel about an odd group of friends.

Paloma has moved from foster home to foster home. The woman at her new home challenges her to make even one friend, but Paloma wants nothing to do with that. When a new secret club at school starts, they target Paloma for friendship, but will they succeed?

This was a pretty good story and I liked the characters and the art. There are some heartwarming moments along the way.

review:
'My Little Green Umbrella' by Sandy Little with illustrations by Tom Lintern is a story about a young girl that finds a magical umbrella.

A young girl finds a green umbrella in a thrift store. The first time she uses it in the rain, something unusual happens. As she gets older, she forgets about the umbrella until it is found by a new generation and the cycle begins again.

The story mirrors the wonder of childhood that we lose as we grow. It also shows how it can be recaptured. The illustrations are beautiful.

review:
'Tosca Volume 3' by Teresa Radice with art by Stefano Turconi is a graphic novel about a captured princess and the two friends determined to free her.

Lucilla is still prisoner of Gauthier de Brienne, and her friends Tosca and Rinaldo are trying to find her. Between the friends is an army amassed to lay siege to Florence. The friends use unconventional methods to try to free their friend and discover some lost family secrets along the way.

I enjoyed this culmination (?) to this story. Everything gets wrapped up nicely. The art is good, and this would be a decent series for preteen readers.

review:
'Teeny Houdini #1: The Disappearing Act' by Katrina Moore with illustrations by Zoe Si is the introduction to a new series of chapter books.

First grader Bessie Lee is tiny, but knows how to get in to big trouble. She wants to be a magician which leads to her making the class hamster disappear. She needs a cape and makes it out of her older sisters blanket. Can this teeny Houdini get her act together in time for the school's talent show?

I felt a connection to little Bessie Lee wanting to do the right thing, but messing up and maybe younger readers will as well. The story has humor and heart and fun illustrations.

'Anna Strong and the Revolutionary War Culper Spy Ring' by Enigma Alberti with illustrations by Laura Terry is part of the Spy on History series of chapter books for young readers.

When British soldiers arrest Selah Strong, they think they are arresting a spy, but there is another spy in the house. Soon Anna is helping Abraham and Ben Talmadge to be spies for George Washington. They become the group that helps inform on Benedict Arnold's treason.

This was a really fun read. The actual book comes with a spycraft kit and there is a code to crack. I also liked the historical notes at the end of the book. This would be a great book for young history buffs and it's an exciting story.

'Arthur Who Wrote Sherlock' by Linda Bailey with illustrations by Isabelle Follath is part of the Who Wrote Classics series.

Arthur Conan Doyle grew up poor, but with a mother that would tell him stories. When he learned to read, he would borrow lots of books from the library. When he gets older, he creates Sherlock Holmes. Holmes becomes so famous that Doyle decides to kill him off, but Holmes can't stay dead, can he?

I liked this biography and the great illustrations with it. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle has an interesting story and this is a good telling of it for younger readers.
