Marcus Rashford grew up in a loving family. They did what they could, but sometimes there wasn't enough food. Marcus fell in love with soccer early and trained hard to be a member of Manchester United. When 2020 hit, Marcus remembered how hard it was to find food when he was younger and he worked to keep kids fed while schools were closed.

This is a great series, and I learned about an inspiring young man that I didn't know about. The illustrations are as unique as the people the books are about.

'oh no' by Alex Norris is a collection of comics with a recurring running joke that works more than you might think.

Based on a webcomic named Webcomic Name, the strips here follow a pink blob as they face embarassment, pessimism, disappointments, and other ails of modern life.

The art is simple, the situations are ironic and painfully familiar and the punchline is the same. There are even some meta comics about running gags. It's clever and fun and probably should be read in shorter sessions than I did.

'Welcome, Dark' by Charis St. Pierre with illustrations by Rachel Wada is a bedtime book for little ones.

Told in gentle rhymes, we hear the sounds of the night and the book shows there is nothing to fear. There are animals hiding and leaves blowing and other night sights and sounds.

It's a lovely, calm bedtime book meant to comfort and calm. The illustrations are beautiful and convey the rhyme of the text.

'101 Things to Do Instead of Playing on Your Phone' by Ilka Heinemann is a rather pointed ebook to maybe hand to certain people in your life (or yourself).

We live in a smartphone obsessed society. You don't have to look around much to see that. This book offers tips like 'Draw a Selfie' or tips for limbering up your shoulders and ankles.

The problem is that it's replacing mindless activity with more mindless activity in some cases, and the ones that appear more mindful are treated as the rest. It's pretty light in content and I'm not sure I'd recommend it or even buy it as a gift book.

'The Heirs of Locksley' by Carrie Vaughn is a follow up novella to 'The Ghosts of Sherwood' and features the children of Robin Hood and Marian.

King John is dead, and his 13 year old son, King Henry III, is being coronated. Along with the pageantry there is an archery contest and other court intrigue. John, Mary and Eleanor find themselves in the middle of things.

I have thoroughly enjoyed both of these novels. They have a nostalgic charm for me of reading Robin Hood stories when I was younger, and the nice thing about Robin Hood Stories (as pointed out in the afterword), is that we always need them for the times we are in.

This book continues Runt's adventure to become a warrior, but first there is school and testing. To pass the tests, Runt trusts a girl who may have a secret weapon, but it could be that she has her own agenda.

This is a pretty good series based on a video game for younger readers. The art and story are fun and there are even strategy hints for the careful reader.

'The Harbinger Book 1' by Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly with art by Robbi Rodriguez is another reboot of a character in the Valiant universe.

Peter Stanchek is a telepath with no memory. What he begins to learn about himself is that he is Public Enemy number one and may not be the good guy he presumes to be and he has a whole pack of superpowered folks after him.

The book does a good job of keeping the reader up to speed, until it falters in the 4th and last issue in this collection. The art is good, and I liked this newer take on a character I haven't particularly cared for before.

'Wait Till Helen Comes' by Mary Downing Hahn with art by Meredith Laxton is a graphic novel adaptation of a book with the same name.

Blended families are hard. Molly and Michael know this because their new stepsister Heather gets them in trouble all the time. Things get worse when the family move in to an old church with a graveyard and Heather seems to make friends with a mysterious girl named Helen.

I liked this spooky story and think it would be a good story for pre-teen readers. The book is older, so some of the dialogue can feel a bit dated, but the art is pretty good.

Ivory Pearl was a young orphan found during World War II and raised and taught to be deadly in a world that can pay her well for her services. Her hard drinking, hard fighting ways cause her to be targeted and she goes to a remote location where no one can find her.

It's a pretty standard thriller with an interesting main character. The art works well for this pulp adventure.

You are visiting a coastal town that fears the Leviathan. There are various paths you can take to try to find out more and maybe even help the town, but beware, because there are traps to avoid and some people are hard to talk to.

Reviewing this as a linear digital file took some of the fun out of reviewing it, but I caught the idea and there are some nice puzzles and twists and turns.

Kid Noize is a courier in a 1977 Mustang. Sam is a boy who lost his mother and is trying to make things work in a new school. They team to find a lost package.

I liked the characters and idea of this more than the execution. The art is good and there is a good concept here. It just didn't fully work for me.

'The Knights of Boo'Gar' with story and art by Art Roche is a heroic tale of questing for lost items. Also, there are lots of puns about snot.

King Mewkus in the kingdom of Boo'Gar has a problem. Princess Phlegm's pet goat has been kidnapped and the king must call on the Knights of Boo'Gar. The only problem is that most of them have retired and only young Sir Rowland is left. Can Rowland and his pet turtle save the kingdom.

This was a fun read with some nice surprises along the way. The illustrations are lots of fun too, and I think young readers would have lots of laughs reading this.

'Neil Armstrong' by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara with illustrations by Christophe Jacques is an ebook in the Little People, Big Dreams series.

When Neil Armstrong was quite young, his father took him to the Cleveland Air Races and that spawned a love of flying in little Neil. He had a pilots license by the time he was 16 which led him to serve in the air over Korea, as a test pilot, and then in to the space program.

As a child, Neil Armstrong was one of my heroes and this book tells his story right for young readers. The illustrations are perfect with a nice nostalgic feel that made me think of Little Golden Books.
