'The Fake-Chicken Kung Fu Fighting Blues' by Aaron Lam is a middle grade ebook about moving to a new town and trying to find your way.

When Anthony's family moves him from Chinatown out to a small town in the province, there are a lot of things he misses. He makes new friends when he stands up to a bully. He learns about his town when he makes a video for his housebound grandmother who is wary of her new town. He learns that his new town is not so bad.

I'm not sure what I expected based on the title, but I liked what I read and it would be a fun book to recommend to younger readers.

'Sister BFFs' by Philippa Rice is a book of comics about sibling sisters who constantly bicker about things.

Two sisters who are grown but still living at home fight each other about everything from who cleans to exes to how much money you'd kiss Tom Jones for. There are job searches and funny text exchanges. There are comments about body odors and how they dress.

It's all pretty funny. It feels like it is taken from real life. I've liked the author/artists other collections and this was different, but still funny.

'Valiant High' by Daniel Kibblesmith with art by Derek Charm and David Baron is a fun graphic novel look at Valiant's heroes as teenagers.

Valiant High is where you will find the young superheroes of the Valiant universe. Aric "X-O Manowar" Dacia is the star running back. Ninjak is a foreign exchange student. Faith and Livewire are best friends just trying to navigate their way through high school, especially when danger suddenly seems to be lurking.

This was a lot of fun to read, and even pretty funny in places. The characters younger selves seemed to be well thought out, and the art reminded me of other high school type comics I read.

'Pantomime' by Christopher Sebela with art by David Stoll is a graphic novel about a group of students who commit burglaries.

After Haley and Max's mother dies, they are sent to Wayfair Academy, a school for the deaf. They make friends there and find a common interest: planning and committing burglaries. This works until they fall into the clutches of a local gangster who makes them work for him. Now they just want out.

I really liked this group of characters and the suspenseful story. I liked the word bubbles emanating from the characters palms. The art is good too.

'The Accursed Vampire' with story and art by Madeline McGrane is a middle grade graphic novel about a grouchy vampire.

Dragoslava became a vampire when he was small, so he remains a kid in stature. His bad behavior has led him to be cursed by a witch he refused to help, so now he runs errands for a witch with a bad temper. Fortunately he has other vampire kid friends, unless he drives them off with his moodiness.

This is a pretty adorable story and I instantly related to little Drago. The art is really a lot of fun and I liked the character design quite a bit.

'Police in a Pod 1' with story and art by Miko Yasu is a manga about a rookie police officer learning her job.

Kawai is new to the police force and she is already fed up with the job. That is, until she meets the new female directore of the station. She is stretched in a series of different scenarios like a school PR trip, helping a runaway teen, and even an autopsy.

There could have been something interesting here, but the story makes odd jumps and there is just an underlying meanness to it that I didn't like. The art is good. I just wish I'd liked it more.

'Things Heroes Say: A Fantasy Artbook & Phrasebook' by Bryn Jones is an ebook for any adventurer who has found themselves stuck looking for something witty to say.

The book has painted scenes from fantasy adventures done in a nice minimalist style. Interspersed with the art are pages in a kind of word cloud format full of comebacks and bold statements for situations like 'When You Reach Your Destination' or 'When Your Fighting a Bear With a Sword.'

There are some really funny things in this book for anyone who has been in a fantasy roleplaying game. The art is pretty cool. This might make a decent gift book for your favorite gamer.
