'Delicates' with story and art by Brenna Thummler takes us back to the haunted graphic novel world of 'Sheets' and it's just as wonderful.

Marjorie Glatt has lost her mother, but gained a bunch of ghostly friends who have saved her family laundromat. Now she has made it in to the popular crowd. Eliza Duncan is not part of that crowd, but wants to believe in ghosts. As Marjorie neglects her ghost friend Wendell, he becomes closer to Eliza, he discovers something that will need Marjorie's help.

This series has such a sense of the loneliness of youth. I love the mood of both books and I think this book might be the stronger of the two. Highly recommended.

'Hell School Volume 1: Rituals' by Dugomier with art by Ers is a graphic novel about outcasts in a school, and a strange hazing ritual.

An elite private school on an island draws elite students as well as a few that don't seem to fit in. Hina and her blue hair and Bastien with his dreads stand out. When the students are told there is an initiation, somehow Bastien and Hina are left out, but that might be a good thing as things are not as they seem at this weird school.

There isn't much to go on here. There is a lot that is hinted at but the story barely gets moving and it's over. Maybe as a complete story arc, it's better, but it was hard to stay interested in this one.

'The Tankies' by Garth Ennis with art by the late Carlos Ezquerra is a collection of three sets of linked graphic novels from the Battlefields series all about an irascible tank commander named Stiles.

The first story takes place after D-Day as British tanks struggled to keep up with troops and stay intact fighting the superior Tigers. Stiles finds himself in charge of a Churchill and trying to catch up with the other units while being stalked by a Tiger.

In the second story, later in the war and now in Germany, Stiles finds himself crewing a Firefly tank and hunting the larger King Tiger.

The third story finds an aging Stiles in Korea in the hills of the Imjin River, fighting the fears of the past when the younger brother of a former tank crewmate shows up and wants to fight alongside him.

The book ends with a great essay by Garth Ennis about tankies and the influences for these stories. The stories are gritty and often pretty bloody, but I couldn't stop turning pages. Carlos Ezquerra's art is great and there is a nice section of his rough art at the back of the book.

'Zeropedia' by Fabcaro with art by Julien Sole is a humorous and informative collection of comics about science.

The book poses a series of questions about science (like 'What is infrared?), then presents answers and funny comics about the idea. There are entries about lots of branches of science as well as famous scientists.

I learned a few things along the way and the jokes were dumb, but funny. The art is in a cartoonish style, but helps to illustrate the principle as well.

'Grumble: Memphis and Beyond the Infinite: Volume 3' by Rafer Roberts with art by Mike Norton is a graphic novel series about a guy stuck in the body of a pug now involved in a jailbreak.

I did not get a chance to review the first two volumes in this series, so there are probably things I am missing, but each of the 5 issues here starts in the past when Eddie was a human and had a part-demon named daughter named Tala. In the present, Tala is trying to rescue her mother from an interdimensional prison and Eddie, now in dog form, is trying to help along with a cast of misfits.

The story is odd and leans in to it. There is some gritty adventure and weird humor and I liked it. This seems like the end of one story arc, so I just might have to go back and find the first two volumes.

'Waluk: The Great Journey' by Ana Maralles and Emilio Ruiz continues the journey of polar bears Waluk and his mentor Eskimo.

Young Waluk and old Eskimo are on the hunt for food, but the icebergs are melting and the seals seem to be getting scarce. They find a beached whale and a mother bear and her two cubs and they convince her to let them eat. They also find a pack of sled dogs that need their help and different kinds of humans, both dangerous and curious.

I didn't read the first volume, but didn't feel like I was lost. The animals have different and unique personalities, which I liked. The message is not lost, but I also didn't feel beat over the head with it. The art is nice too.

'Dead Day' by Ryan Parrott with art by Evgeniy Bornyakov is a graphic novel about a day when the dead come back to life, but it's not a zombie story.

Once every year or so, the dead come back to life, but not necessarily all of them. Some of them want revenge, and some want to reunite with loved ones. There are those who welcome them and those who want to stop them. This book deals with a family and a wife who wants to reunite with her dead husband. The dead husband just wants revenge for a crime that went wrong.

I really liked the concept and it feels like there is a lot here to work with. The worldbuilding and concepts are solid. The art was pretty good too.
